Huawei’s newest Flagship device, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is a gorgeous all metal Smartphone powered by the latest Kirin 925 Octa Core Processor on a very solid and ultra Slim body.

Languages Supported: English, Afrikaans, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, Bosanki, Catala, Cestina, Dansk, Deutsch, Eesti, Espanol, Filipino, French, Hrvatski, IsiZulu, Italiano, kiswahili, Latviesu, Lietuviu, Magyar, Nederlands, Norsk, Polish, Portuguese, Romana, Rumantsch, Slovencina, Slovenscina, Suomi, Svenska, Vietnamese, Turkish, Greek, Bulgarian, Russian, Serbian, Ukrainian, Urdu, Hebrew, Arabic, Persian, Thai, Cambodian, Bengali, Korean, Japanese, Simplified/Traditional Chinese

The new Mate 7 comes with a Phablet size 6.0 inch Display and the new IPS-NEO Display with Negative Liquid Crystal which is manufactured by Japan Display inc. The new display is said to feature a 1500:1 high contrast ratio, 15% increased transmissivity and 15% reduced power consumption. The device also comes with a very narrow 2.9mm bezel which makes for 83% more surface to screen room. Comes also with a 1080p resolution, although we might have expected a QHD or 2K Ultra HD Display for such a pricier device. Given the problems known or associated with QHD display smartphones like overheating and high power consumption, a 1080p might work in its favor.

Huawei’s Ascend Series since then have been one of the thinnest devices in the market, and certainly the 7.9mm thickness of the new Mate 7 puts it back on the list. Although the phone features a giant screen, its thickness factor comes 2nd to the Xperia T2 Ultra with 7.7mm. Furthermore, the ergonomic curve design makes for easier grip and surprisingly easier one hand use, a unibody design designates the battery to be inaccessible, although the 95% True metal construction doesn’t feel cheap and finicky and will be popular to end users. Design wise, the Ascend Mate 7 has likeness with that of the HTC One, the curved ergonomic design and prominent features are reminiscent of HTC design. Powering the beast is a high density 4100mAh battery which the Huawei has boast to last up to 2 – 3 days of continued regular usage. More so, 2 and a half days of test and compared to other competitors.

Performance, instead of the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series Processors, the Mate 7 is equipped with a speedy and improved version of the HiSilicon Kirin Octa Core processor. The new Soc promised improve battery life willst not sacrificing performance. Thus, a perfect balance between performance and consumption as advertised. The 28nm Architecture coupled with BIG.LITTLE and Sensor Management Unit i3 allows for smarter and better performance benefit. The Kirin 925 also allows for LTE Cat6 modem Support and thus imbedded 4G or LTE.

Camera, the Ascend Mate 7 comes with a powerful 13 megapixel camera with a 4th generation Sony Xmor Sensor, f2.0 Aperture, 28mm wide angle lens and a BSI (Back sensor illuminated) for better low light performance. The camera features variable shooting modes and 1080p video recording @ 30fps. Although compared to other flagship devices, its quite disappointing that it lacks 4K video recording.

Connectivity, the Mate 7 is to be released on 100+ different countries and such supports variable frequencies including HSDPA and LTE or 4G. Supports Dual Micro Sim with Dual Standby and features Cat6 support 4G or LTE and up to 300Mbps download and 50Mbps upload, translating to blistering internet speeds. The usual connectivity options are also available such as dual band Wifi, Wifi 802.11 a/b/g/n, bluetooth 4.0, NFC etc…

Other notable features, clearly inspired by the SAM S5 and the iPhone, the Mate 7 comes with a fingerprint scanner at the back, this features allows for 360 degree fingerprint swiping and allows features such as security locking, and other functions such as payment modes etc… Huawei also advertises it to work even with wet or damp hands.

Overall, given the debut of the Iphone 6, the Ascend Mate 7 puts it in direct competition especially in the Phablet Category. Huawei’s Ascend Mate Series throughout the years have really impressed end users in terms of their design, given the price, the all aluminum solid construction make it a feel premium and worthy of Flagship status. A powerful hardware, excellent design, solid construction, 4G capability and powerful camera are just some of the best features you’ll find on the Ascend Mate 7.
