Here is my take on the Huawei P10 Plus and P10. And what phone is best for your needs.

Lets establish similarities between the two:

  • The Huawei P10 Plus and P10 have very similar premium builds, sandblasted and diamond cut, this means that, construction is top notch between the two and both offer the best materials possible.
  • Also both uses the same Cameras from Leica,  20 mp Monochrome Sensor and 12 mp RGB secondary sensor.
  • On very good lighting, the cameras on bth phones offer excellent image quality
  • The two phones comes powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 960 chip, which offers blistering speed and optimization, both for battery life and pure performance.
  • EMUI 5.1 runs the whole system and is based on Android 7.0 Nougat. The UI had made major improvements and it is now more customizable and no longer an eyesore.
  • Connectivity is also excellent, something Huawei has been though-out its flagship line-up
  • And lastly, Battery life is impressive on both of these phones, coupled with Huawei’s supercharge, it can charge the phone in just an hour.

Issues or concern?

No more oleophobic coating, seldom do you see this without on a Flagship. This basically means that the screen is now a fingerprint magnet and smudges will be present if you remove the screen protector. Most Flagships have it, from Xiaomi etc… unfortunately not on Huawei’s Flagship.

What is the key difference between the two?

  • The Huawei P10 Plus has a much bigger 5.5 inch Screen with Quad HD. But on real world use, you seldom see the major difference between the two because both screens are excellent.
  • The camera sensor of the Huawei P10 Plus is tweaked a bit, even though it is the same sensor underneath, the performance is much better on the Huawei P10 Plus because of the much wider f/1.8 Aperture SUMMILUX lens. Which basically means more light can go through and performance on low light is even better.
  • It also comes with a wider f/1.8 Aperture SUMMILUX, which means that it offers much better low light performance than the regular P10.
  • The Huawei P10 Plus now comes with 6 GB RAM instead of 4 and doubles the storage up to 128 GB. However, on real world use 4 versus 6 GB RAM isn’t really a huge jump, and you can barely feel it, unless you do heavy multitasking.
  • Battery is bigger on the Huawei P10 Plus (3750mAh) compared to 3200mAh (P10). But P10 Plus still needs to carry the weight of a bigger and much higher screen resolution, so the difference between them are actually negligible, give or take 10-15% battery life difference.

Where to Buy?

Huawei P10 Plus retails at $606

Huawei P10 retails at $459 (price until Nov 30)

So, which one should you get?

Considering the price difference is not that much, then the Huawei P10 Plus seems more attractive deal. Probably its biggest advantage is on the camera. It is much better for taking photos on low light. The difference of f/2.2 versus f/1.8 Aperture is huge. And were are talking about low light photos here, on good lighting, both sensors are relatively on par. Also the bigger 5.5 inch Screen and Quad HD display seems to be a much better pick also. However, you should know that Oleophobic coating has been taken out of the picture for both of these devices. So I think you can count that as a con between the two.
