Let’s establish this for a second, it’s an ultra cheap iphone 5c knock off retailing at $99, so you know what you’re expecting. We’ve seen a host of iphone knock offs from 4 to 4s and now for the latest release iphone 5s or its cheaper alternative, the 5c (C for cheap?). Kiphone is regarded for targeting iphone clones or look a likes. Some other manufacturers like Sophone, Zophone also have their share. Although releases are quite few compared to galaxy s4 or htc one.
The Kiphone 5C is powered by a Dual Core Processor, but it lists itself as one of the fastest dual core processor to date. We all know that Quad Core Processors are all the rage, but undoubtedly dual core still exist, alive and kicking on most budget smartphones. Antutu synthetic benchmarks reveal a score of more than 9000 points which is impressive to say the least. The most that previous generation MT6577 processors is only able to pull out about 5000 to 6000 points and that’s standard to all dual core during its time. The HDC Galaxy S3 EX and the Sophone i5, both with MT6577 dual core were only able to achieve more or less 6000 points on Antutu. Furthermore, The device runs Android 4.2.2 Jellybean and comes with preinstalled iOS 7 theme, so you can experience the look and feel of an ios device.
In terms of GPU, the MT6572 seems to use a different GPU renderer, it uses the last generation Mali 400 instead of the PowerVR SGX531 Ultra. More so, the Mali 400 is regarded for its stability and compatibility of most applications of games even though it’s quite outdated.
The Kiphone 5C only supports 512 MB of ram, which is quite low in today’s standard, however it still enough for moderate users. A testament is the Sophone i5 which seems to run all applications and games with no problems even with the same RAM. unfortunately, there is no Micro SD card Slot
Why am i comparing this with the Sophone i5? In terms of hardware, both phones appear to be very identical and also both are iphone knock offs and low end phones. You can see a crude spec comparison below
The Kiphone 5C sports a 4.0 inch IPS FWVGA display @ 800 x 400 pixels (same with Sophone i5), color representation seem to have a bluish tint on screen. Pixels are quite low, so colors appear flushed. Although a HD display is more than welcome, with its price its quite understandable.
Compared to the Sophone i5, the Kiphone 5C is only equipped with a 2.0 megapixel front and rear camera. The Sophone i5 comes with a 8 megapixel camera, however it does not fair better either. The Sophone i5 has a very weak flash and has no touch focus so images appear blurry and far below average in terms of image quality. A 2.0 megapixel camera is expected for an ultra budget phone, besides, its focused more on usability and less on features. Just don’t expect much about camera performance and image quality.
Supports Single Micro Simcard Support with GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz and 3G Network via WCDMA 850/2100MHz, if you are interested on the phone, make sure your area supports the following frequency for better compatibility with your carrier. The device also supports the standard connectivity of Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, Wifi 802.11 b/g, FM support and built in GPS or A-GPS Support for location. Unfortunately, there is no 4G or LTE Support. Since its a low end device, it’s understandable.
As an iphone knock off, the Kiphone 5C also maintains a nonremovable back cover, therefore battery is built in. The battery is listed only at 1510mAh which is far below average especially if you are going to use it for calls, internet. In comparison, the Sophone i5 also has a 1500Mah battery, although it is removable. And as far as usage goes, its not going to last long. You can see the battery meter dip as soon as you remove the charger. Power hog apps, wifi, and 3G seems to take a tool on the battery.
At first glance, the phone does capture the looks of the Iphone 5C, its also made of plastic so, the resemblance it truly uncanny. Dimensions reveal 124.4 x 59.2 x 8.97 mm and weight about 116 g. The Following Ports are present. Micro USB 2.0 port, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and Single Micro Simcard Slot.
How much does a real Iphone 5C cost? The Kiphone 5C cuts that more than half at $99 its certainly one of the cheapest iphone clone available. With the emergence of the Iphone 5S and 5C market, look for more look a likes and knock offs in the coming weeks. Although it has quite a lot of shortcomings. Its main strength is in its price and not on its hardware. At its current price point, you’ll get what you pay for. Even though its only a Dual Core, it currently beats previous generation Dual core processors in terms of raw performance.
For added information, Kiphone is really manufactured by COLDPLAY, a hongkong based company with its products assembled in China and renamed Kiphone.
The Kiphone 5C is under promotion and currently retails at around $99 and is available in the following colors, white, black, blue, green, red and yellow, and you can check it out click here.
