Video Reference: Meizu MX4 Pro tour…
Meizu’s MX4 Pro is more of a complete overhaul to the original. Instead of MediaTEK, they now opted for a faster and proven Samsung Exynos 5430 processor. The first 20nm processor and promises big changes especially in terms of power consumption and performance. A highlight also for the MX4 Pro is the 2K Display. Meizu has adapted to the QHD market which is dominated by LG G3, Vivo Xplay 3s and Oppo Find 7 just to name a few etc… With a very competitive global market, the MX4 Pro probably make it one of the must have of 2015.
A brand new cutting edge processor with superior power saving capabilities… In comparison with the original MX4 which uses also a new Processor but of a different brand. The MediaTEK 6595, also features built in 4G support as well as the highest benchmark score of any Smartphone. Antutu scored a whopping 50000 plus points. Although real world test was not definitively tested. Samsung’s very own Exynos 5430 are also rivals of Qualcomm Snapdragon and this next generation offers superior power consumption especially paired up with a very high resolution display. ARM big.LITTLE is also present and is responsible for smart saving properties of the Soc. Paired with Exynos 5430 is a revamped Mali T628 MP6 600MHz Graphics processor, which is about 130% more powerful than previous generation. An independent Mobile Image Compressor takes advantage of lossless 2K compression for fast and smooth performance. Furthermore, the phone is also equipped with 3 GB DDR3 RAM and comes with a selection of 16/32/64 GB storage variant. Unfortunately there is no option for expanding this storage, thus, you are limited with how much is available.
The latest Anroid 4.4.4 Kitkat with built in Flyme 4.0 customized user interface. Flyme is Meizu’s proprietary User Interface that makes it distinct to other devices such as Xiaomi and Oppo. The new Flyme is very similar on the original Meizu MX4 and allows easy customizing of the home screen, widgets and other functions.
A common complaint of QHD or 2K capable Smartphone’s… High power consumption, even with ample size batteries, such devices like the Oppo Find 7, Vivo Xplay 3S suffer etc… are left disappointed with the less usage time and increase battery consumption. Basically making the device more a headache rather than a luxury. On paper, Meizu addresses this issue with a much power efficient display. The screen is listed to be 2K but resolution is much higher than on other devices. A resolution of 2560 x 1536 pixels is a notch above the 2K category, calling it a 2K pro would make it different. A ultra high 546 ppi (pixel per inch) make it the highest pixel density than any other Smartphone to date. Furthermore, compared to the 5.36 inch display of the original Meizu Mx4, the Pro version has a slightly larger 5.5 inch Phablet size display.
In detail, Meizu describes the screen… as a JDI, NEGA negative LCD panel with LED backlight and also uses a Cutting edge Panel Self Refresh (PSR) technology that keeps visual or maintains quality even when played longer with the same energy consumption all throughout operation. The Display glass is of Single Glass fully laminated with a 450cd/m2 max brightness with 2048 levels of brilliance control. The contrast ratio is 1500:1 and is coated with layers of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 making it more durable and highly resistant to scratching and breaks. Thus, Meizu has placed a lot of work on making this new and better 2K display.
Another prominent feature of the Mx4 Pro is the mTouch technology which in layman’s terms is a fingerprint biometric sensor that is specific to the user and allows multilevel security in order to unlock the phone. A technology similar to Apple’s Touch ID and Samsung’s Fingerprint unlocking. In order to unlock the phone, a user with his biometric fingerprint ID stored already on the phone’s system presses his finger on the scanner and in less than 0.5 seconds the phone will then unlock. Meizu also promised it to work even with damped or wet fingers, stating that the 508 pixels are ultra sensitive and can identify users even not properly placed or not in ideal condition. Meizu keen on safety has prompted them to use hardware level safety and multiple algorithms so that User data’s are always secure.
Aside from Fingerprint unlock, Voice Identification is also included… A feature that allows the device to recognize the users voice for unlocking, dialing phone numbers as well as other voice commands supported. Voice assistance enables the user hand’s free use of the device.
Studio Quality Audio Components… most phones don’t really bother with high quality Audio. Meizu however calls it Retina Sound, allows users to experience high quality sound and compression. Uses a ES9018 DAC Audio Chip with a Signal to noise ratio of up to 114dB and a dynamic range of up to 123dB. Also uses a OPA1612 high quality amplifier for better performance especially with earphones are used. Furthermore, Passive Filter technology blocks out background interferences for a more immersive experience. Deep base, beautiful vocals and less interference are made possible due to the high quality Audio components. Highs and lows in Gain are enjoyed even when using different types of earphones or headphones through automatic preset settings on quality. Built in protection and to prevent sudden changes in volume helps prevent eardrum damages.
Connectivity is no issue… Supporting up to 5 different network types and 13 frequency bands, which basically means that the phone is supported worldwide. Dual 4G support also means both TD-LTE and FDD-LTE are available out of the box. LTE maximum download rates exceeds 150Mbps which is 6x faster compared to the Mx3.
Other connectivity options are also available, such as WiFi 802.11 ac/n/g/b/a, Dual band Wifi (2.4GHz/5GHz) and Bluetooth 4.0 with support for LE and A2DP. Global position is also supported and supports Assistive direction, GLONASS, NFSS, SBAS, WAAS EGNOS, MSAS, and GAGAN.
A huge battery to accommodate such as powerful Phone… Although Meizu promised a much more efficient phone, they did also make sure that the MX4 pro came with a high capacity non removable 3350mAh battery. The fact that its non user replaceable may disappoint most users. But the unibody design and more robust compact look help it slim down to a acceptable 9mm in thickness. It is also listed to last a day and a half even with 4G enabled.
A superior, Professional Quality Camera… Meizu also made sure that MX4 Pro is an all in one package, a superior multimedia device and a replacement camera. At 20.7 megapixels its one of the highest pixels for a Smartphone, Single lens reflex (SLR) pixel output with a Sony IMX220 Exmor RS Series Sensor Camera, Sapphire crystal protective Lens , F/2.2 Aperture and 30 photos per second burst shot mode and a 0.3 seconds Autofocus feature make it the best camera to be fitted on a phone. Dual LED Flash (Dual tone) which outputs different colors making it ideal for low light scenes as well as a Blue Glass IR Filter and a 5 element lens outputs detailed and superior quality photos. Customizing shots and getting the best results is also made possible with the numerous shooting modes and settings available. A Super High 1600 ISO light sensitivity for low light scenes, so you can tweak and set the camera quality to your own preference. The 5.0 megapixel Front Camera is no slouch either, called Omnivision OV5693, Meizu advertises it as the best Front Facing Camera available. It also comes preloaded with awesome features such as F/2.2 Aperture Lens, pixel size of 1.4 μm, Face AE Light boost technology, 84.4° wide angle lens and FotoNation selfie enhancement algorithm to take those amazing selfies. In addition, the rear camera can record up to 4K (2160) video quality @ 30fps. The front camera can also take video but at a respectable 1080p @ 30fps.
In terms of design and build, the MX4 is a lot similar to the original… A compact, well built design and a respectable 9.0 mm thickness and 158g. The screen takes up majority of the space in front, a screen to bezel ratio of 76.5% and a super narrow bezel of 2.8mm. The rear cover is off allow metal and is furnished in a streamline curved design which is characteristic of Meizu. Furthermore, instead of an oval mTouch sensor, it is rectangle and is measured at 13 x 8.2mm. It is also made of Sapphire Glass that makes it very durable and can identify fingerprints up to 360° angle.
Upgraded Hardware, Better Camera, Superior Display are just some of the major aspects one can describe the Meizu MX4 Pro. It’s a complete overhaul of the original and offers more bang for your buck. Preloaded with awesome features, it’s a premium Smartphone that every phone has in his buck lists. Although there are a few grips, Meizu has outdone itself and is now competing head one with the Xiaomi Mi4. This is a teaser of the device and on December of 2014, this device will be made available. Fortunately, pre-orders are available.
