  • Equipped with 6 GB RAM out of the box
  • Comes with either 64/128 GB Storage

  • Light package at just $170g
  • 3350mAh battery and charges via USB Type C (Quick Charge 3.0)
  • IR Infrared Remote Sensor
  • Dual Microphone Design with Front Facing Loudspeakers

Some Cons:

  • Same with the Xiaomi Mi 5c and Xiaomi Mi Pad 3, the OS is very unstable
  • No MicroSD Card Expansion support (no memory expansion)
  • No more 3.5mm Audio Jack
  • Dual sided Glass design makes the phone very slippery
  • The Secondary Camera will only work on Photos (no zoom on video unfortunately)
  • Loudspeakers are quite similar to the Xiaomi Mi5s, less bass, loud but more on treble
  • The Audio Quality coming from the camera has a low bit rate (low quality audio)
  • No 1080p video @ 60 fps, still stuck at 30fps
  • only a 1080p Resolution Display (but this is purely subjective) – as for me, this doesn’t bother me, great for battery also

Dual Camera feature for Bokeh and Zoom

Xiaomi has stepped up its game with their Dual Camera Flagship. The Xiaomi Mi 6 Dual Cameras, but this is somewhat different: You have the 12 MP SonyIMX386 Main Sensor that offers PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus), CAF (Continuous Autofocus) and 4K video Support. The Auxiliary Camera is a Samsung Sensor that offers 2x Lossless Optical Zoom, so it is more like a telephoto lens, quite different from Digital Zoom, where the image quality suffers when you zoom in.

Bokeh Effects

On portrait mode, you can take advantage of this Dual Camera feature, allowing you to blur out the background just like any Wide Aperture DSLR Lens

2x Lossless Optical Zoom

The auxiliary camera handles the 2x Optical Zoom feature and does it perfectly. You can zoom in on the subject whilst still maintaining great picture quality. Unfortunately, this only works on photo mode

4 Axis OIS but low bit rate Audio

Optical Image Stabilization was absent on the Mi5s, but now Xiaomi has heard the call, and placed this on all video modes including 4K. It works perfectly and videos, however, the low bit rate of the Audio is a bit of a letdown. 96kbps, is similar to the Xiaomi Mi5s, Mi5s Plus and Mi Mix.

Say goodbye to 3.5mm Audio Jacks, welcome CDLA Technology

Just like Apple, Xiaomi (who loves to copy them) is also ditching the 3.5mm Audio Jack, meaning you will be using CDLA (Continuous Digital Lossless Audio) via the USB Type C adapter. This technology is similar to the ones used on the LETV Leeco Le 2 Max.

The new Snapdragon  835, 6 gb RAM but unstable ROM

The hardware is obvious a beast, with 180K points on Antutu, you would expect this to break new benchmark scores. It also comes with a revamped Adreno 540 GPU, offering better performance and gaming possibilities. However, Xiaomi’s latest releases have been very questionable, especially when it comes to the OS. Their Android 7.0 Nougat is still very unstable and needs polishing.

Needs a bit more polishing but so far, looks promising

Compared to previous Flagships from Xiaomi, so far the Xiaomi Mi 6 has offered a lot of great potential. With only the OS seen as the biggest CON as of late, the features and specs speaks for itself. It is fill to the brim with features, like Snapdragon 835, 6 GB RAM and Dual Camera Features, which are currently the trend as of late. It has also jumped the bridge into CDLA and thus maybe a deal breaker for some. But overall, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is a great Flagship, and perhaps a great step for more Flagships to come from Xiaomi.
