Pros of the Xiaomi Mi 6:

  • Premium build quality, huge improvement over the Xiaomi Mi5s
  • Dual Sided Glass Build, front and back (slippery but does come with rubber case)
  • Splash Proof design (although I did not test this yet), will be on another video
  • Blistering fast Chipset (Snapdragon 835) – monster Benchmark scores
  • Beast gaming performance (Adreno 540) – all the games i have tested ran smooth
  • Runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat, based on Miui 8.2.2 (latest ROM, which fixes stability issues)
  • The same 5.15 inch IPS 1080p screen with the Xiaomi Mi5s
  • Camera offers 2x Telephoto (Optical Zoom) – Even zoomed in, the images remains sharp
  • Portrait mode is fun to use, you can take great depth of field shots or Blurring out the background
  • The quality of the bokeh is good, probably comparable to a f/1.8 prime lens (creamy look to it)
  • It shoots 4K video at 30fps with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization working and functional
  • Comes with NFC, BT 5.0 and Strong GPS with Glonass Performance
  • Fast and Stable Dual Band WiFi performance (no issues with connectivity)
  • 3350mAh battery can last up to 13 hours and 14 minutes per charge
  • Charging time is also relatively quick, 1.5-2 hours estimated
  • Excellent Call Quality and Network connections, although I only tested it on 3G
  • The Front Fingerprint Scanner is miles better than the Xiaomi Mi5s, it is 10/10 accurate and fast
  • CDLA (USB Type C to 3.5mm Audio Jack) offers excellent Audio Quality

Cons:

  • Memory Hog OS, poor memory optimization (only 2.6 GB RAM left)
  • No MicroSD Card Support
  • Limited Customizations on Camera UI (very basic UI)
  • Secondary Camera is basically useless on Video Mode
  • Poor Audio Quality on Video Mic, low bit rate (96kbps), overall quality is not great
  • No option for 1080p @ 60fps
  • Portrait mode and 2x Telephoto is only for Camera Mode
  • My version only supports TD-LTE (so I could not test the 4G LTE)
  • You need to bring the USB Type C to 3.5mm Adapter everytime you want to use a headphone

Not yet perfect, but a great successor and a must have to anyone looking for great performance and a powerful camera I think my lengthy review was well worth it. I just had to share everything I know about this Flagship. Even with some limitations, It is still one of the best Flagships that I have tested. Truly a great upgrade over the Xiaomi Mi5s. I was impressed with how the camera performs. Although it still could have used some work, the quality and overall performance is highly commendable. The build quality has also stepped up a lot, and even though the CDLA move was bit questionable, I had no complaints about it. The Audio Quality was just superb. Perhaps my only gripe was that the Secondary Camera is useless on video mode and the Camera UI seems to be lacking in Customization. If you are looking for a Top tier Smartphone that also offers powerful Camera, then the Xiaomi Mi 6 is a great choice. But if you are on a budget, the Xiaomi Mi5s is still a great contender especially for the price and value it offers.
