The Xiaomi Mi4 recently made its debut, and just like the Mi3, it made its presence known. The Mi4 comes upgraded, and also comes with a revamped design a bit different from the last one. Instead of plastic, the Xiaomi opted for a Stainless Steel Metal Frame which boast improved durability and a more solid build quality. Another observable difference is the Flat edge design which is a change from the curved edge design of the Mi3. Worthy to note, that the Mi4 now offers 4G or LTE Support, although currently it only supports TDD-LTE. The Mi4 also boast an IR Blaster.

Considering the Specs, we cant help notice that the Xiaomi Mi4 is clearly tailored to compete with the OnePlus One, the later which was released not too long ago, offering top tier performance for a 300+ price tag. The Mi4 very much offers the same hardware, although it has a clear edge in terms of the Stainless Steel Metal Frame. However, both phones have a lingering issue, the lack of extended storage support is bit of a deal breaker, forcing users to buy the more expensive version just to get more storage space. Other minor issues which might be a inconvenience to some, the lack of removable battery and Single Sim only Support.

The Xiaomi Mi4 runs a MiUi v6 which is Xiaomi’s skinned version of the Android 4.4 KitKat, offers customizability similar to the Mi3, with support for its very own themes and plugin support. On the other hand, the OnePlus runs Cyanogen Mod right out of the box, it is also based on Android 4.4 KitKat but offers the developer, community and a much more customizability. Moreover, Color OS is also supported.

Languages Supported: English, Afrikaans, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, Bosnian, Catala, Cestina, Dansk, Deutsch, Eesti, Espanol, Filipino, French, Hrvastki, IsiZulu, Italiano, Kiswahili, Latviesu, Lietuviu, Macedonian, Magyar, Nederlands, Norsk, Polish, Portuguese, Romana, Rumantsch, Slovenscina, Slovencina, Suomi, Svenska, Vietnamese, Turkish, Greek, Bulgarian, Serbian, Ukranian, Hebrew, India Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Bengali, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Simplified/Traditional Chinese

In terms of Display, both phones have nearly identical screen’s, 1080p FHD Display with about 400 + pixel per inch. Although we would have loved that the Mi4 carry 2K or QHD display, or at least in some of its optional models. At 5.0 inches, the Mi4 seems to edge in terms of one hand ease of use, although the OnePlus is not too bad but the giant screen might not appeal to some.

Other notable features include 4K video recording (2160p @ 30fps), NFC, 13 MP Sony Exmor Camera and 4G support are all present in both phones. Although in terms of 4G frequency availability, the OnePlus has better or wider frequency support and is known to work internationally.

Overall, both phones are really impressive, you can’t expect top tier or premium performance at $300+ price point. The real question now is availability. Mi4 is set to be available in the last week of July. However, it will not be readily available to all. Set to be release first in China, just like the Mi3, it will likely take some time for it to be distributed in other parts of the world. Consequently, the OnePlus One is already available but is limited to several regions.
