Xiaomi’s newest Flagship just landed and it is “AWESOME”, the Xiaomi Mi5 is probably one of the best Smartphone to come out of 2016. The phone will be available for purchase this March 1, 2016 and demand has been through the rough, also worth noting that the handset is set to launch at just $260 (prices may vary on online resellers), making it an affordable choice. The phone is packing the fastest chipset and most advance features on a phone today.
There are 2 versions available
The base version will feature 3 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 64 GB UFS 2.0 (Universal Flash Storage) and 3D Ceramic Back cover. On the other hand, the Pro version will feature 4 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 128 GB UFS 2.0 Storage and Ceramic Zirconia Back cover. The phones will also come with three colors, namely White, Black and Gold.
Speaking of specs, the Xiaomi Mi5 packs the current generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Chipset with Adreno 530 GPU. The said chipset is said to be leaps and bounds faster than the Snapdragon 810. Xiaomi also showed a brief Antutu score of 142,084 points, which is “INSANE”, and thus, gives you an idea of how fast it is. The Qualcomm Spectra Image processor is also capable of native 4K Video Recording and up to Cat 12 LTE or VoLTE (up to 600 Mbps speed). Furthermore, the phone will also come with either 3 or 4 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 64/128 GB UFS 2.0 Storage or ROM. The UFS (Universal Flash Storage) is a new breed which has a different architecture to eMMC and Xiaomi said it is 87% faster.
Snapdragon 820 is 100% faster than Snapdragon 810
Antutu (version 6.0)Score: 142,084 points
820 (GPU) is 40% faster than 810 (GPU)

3D Glass or Ceramic Zirconia
Take your pick, the Base version will feature the 3D Ceramic Glass Cover and the Pro version with the Ceramic Zirconia. Xiaomi has advertise the build materials as Abrasion resistant and also very durable. Even comparing hardness value to steel. The handset has a 8H Mohs Hardness scale which is more than Steel 4. to 4.5 Mohs). Anyway, the design bares close resemblance to Mi Note but has a curved edge that makes it easy to hold. The phone has a Unibody design and CNC crafted with a curved design that makes seamless transition from glass to metal. Furthermore, the phone is also kept at a light weight 129g and is 14g lighter than the iPhone 6.
Border-less Quad HD Display, Fingerprint Scanner and MIUI 7
The Xiaomi Mi5 features a crystal clear 5.15 inch IPS display with a 1080p FHD resolution reaching up to 500+ ppi on pixel density. Also the screen is said to be Border-less with near Zero borders only at the sides. The screen is also curved and protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, making it more resistant to scratches and abrasions. Furthermore, the Mi5 is also the first Mi phone to offer capacitive Home button keys. Also worth mentioning, is that the Fingerprint Scanner or Sensor is also built in into the Home Button instead of the rear.
The phone will run the latest MIUI 7 which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, anyone familiar with the OS, will easily get accustomed to the latest version. Multiple features are also embedded including Reading mode, Daylight Mode etc… all within notification distance.
16 MP Camera with 4 Axis OIS and 4K video recording
The camera gets a huge bump to 16 MP and uses a Sony IMX298 sensor, also a BSI (Back-side illuminated) sensor and also features PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus). What’s interesting is that Xiaomi also equipped the camera with 4 Axis OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), a lot better than what is offered on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s. Meaning, you can shoot images and videos with relative ease and less shaking. The phone is also the first to feature DTI (Deep Transition Isolation) technology, which prevents light leaks and thus you get the true colors and images available. Also the camera makes use of Sapphire Crystal lens, which is a very durable glass. The Qualcomm Spectra Image Processing chipset is readily capable of 4K video recording.
4G Plus (CAT 12 LTE Modem) and USB Type C
Built-in on the chipset, the phone packs a new CAT 12 LTE Modem, Xiaomi named this VoLTE, which can get up to 600Mbps download speeds. The phone sports Dual SIM slot and Xiaomi will have multiple versions depending on the region. You also have other connectivity options such as Bluetooth4.2, Dual Band WiFi and USB Type C (reversible).
3000mAh battery (Quick Charge), NFC Support
The Xiaomi Mi5 will come with a 3000mAh built-in battery and will also feature Qualcomm’s Pump Express (Quick Charge 3.0 feature), allows you to get around 80-90 charge on just one hour of being plugged in. Also 5 minutes charging will get you around 2.5hours of phone call. However, actual battery performance is not yet known, but Xiaomi is optimistic of its Power Saving feature, but it will depend on users preference, especially with the new Snapdragon 820 chipset.
Furthermore, NFC is still ever present, unlike the OnePlus Two, Xiaomi is still supporting this feature. Also at the rear of the phone you can find the Dual Stereo Speakers.
Most Anticipated and Best Phone to come out of 2016 yet
Anticipating it’s release, there’s really nothing bad to say about the Xiaomi Mi5, aside from the lack of MicroSD support, the phone is the best or probably the most perfect Flagship to come out of Xiaomi. The company was able to cramp everything we love on a phone but still make it consumer friendly. Xiaomi said that it will probably be between $260 to $300, but this figure might get up to $400 for the Pro version. The Mi5, is a fitting successor to the Mi4, which is an already great device.
